The weapon came in a box within a box, I assume as part of the transfer from UPS to the USPS. There was no paperwork, only the manufacturers markings on the inner box. The weapon was flawless, and with a heavy coating of foundry grease on the blade.
This is a heavy sword but seems well made and strong! The sword edge is very sharp but could use a slight bit of finish honing. I don't think you can find a better sword for the money.
OK, so its not a real, folded steel samurai sword. Those cost thousands, and you get what you pay for, however, compare the price to an $85 Ka-bar, and you begin to see how reasonably priced this sword is. The quality and craftsmanship of this sword is easily comparable to any mid-range, mass-produced combat knife made by companies like Ka-bar or Ontario. You are paying for a sword that is handmade with modern materials and knifemaking techniques - high carbon steel with a clay-tempered "hamon" edge. No joke, the edge is sharp enough to shave with. I plan on purchasing the matching Katana, and I already purchased 2 Mushashi style (#670) tsuba to make the set truly no-frills.
The katana is not as tight in the scabbard(top of the Wakizashi) as the Wakizashi is in the scabbard. This makes it easy to pull out the katana with out revealing the hidden Wakizashi.
I don't have much experience playing with Japanese sword. But I definitely feel the quality when I unpack it, it comes with a certificate and even a carrying bag! The details of this sword is nice and clean, material feels solid and grace. I am very satisfied with this purchase.
Bravo!!!! once again cold steel has outdone themselves!! after purchasing a cold steel recon 1 from them and seeing how incredibly sharp those blades come and stay, and the perfect craftmanship that goes into them and what high quality they are, i went and ordered me one of these katanas.....
This product was way over my expectations!!! The work that went into this sword was amazing, each detail is so awesome. This was a gift for my husband, and he was thrilled with it. Thank you so much
The blade is of excellent quality. Only the fittings are cheaply made. Everything else is top notch. The blade is sharp stong and heavy.. It is truly a weapon to behold. I love it.
Have admired this incredibly detailed sword for about one hour now just staring at it. It's a breathtaking piece of beauty and I am now a proud owner of 2 swords made by Handmade sword company. I`m very happy with this sword!
All of the cold steel training weapons I have purchased have arrived in a timely manner, in good condition and seem to be of excellent quality. My wife and I are not in any kind of training, we just like to "play swords" so our routines tend to be pretty vigorous and we have never experienced any bending or warping.
Worth the few extra $$$$. This is built solid. The balance is great. You know you have a sword in your hand that is not going to fly apart when you swing it around of take it out of the Saya.
